Mukono Municipal Council officially launches the Mayor's Cup 2026: unity, health and a dream of a Municipality team Mayor's Cup

Mukono Municipal Council has officially launched the Mayor's Cup 2026, marking the beginning of preparations for the highly anticipated municipal sports tournament.

The launch was presided over by His Worship the Mayor, Hon. Robert Peter Kabanda, alongside the Municipal Technical Team, the Deputy Mayor and members of the executive committee, during a press conference held at the Municipal Council.

Why the Mayor's Cup

The Mayor's Cup aims to promote sports and talent development, strengthen unity among communities, nurture young talent, and give young people a platform to showcase their abilities through sports.

What was said

The Mukono Municipality Mayor's Cup 2026 stepped into the spotlight at a press conference where Mayor Kabanda and his deputy, the Chairperson of the Organising Committee, spoke to the media about a tournament built on unity, health and development. The press gave the meeting full coverage, and the room was full: councillors, parish delegates and the whole Mayor's Cup technical team were present.

The Mayor: unity, and a healthier community

The Mayor stressed that the Cup is about more than trophies. He called on the community to come together through programmes that transform the health of the people, and to use sport to build unity and development across the municipality.

Unity and the development of the community, through programmes that transform its health.

A dream: a Mukono Municipality team

The Mayor also shared the bigger dream behind the tournament, which is to build a Municipality team. He pointed to the success of Kyagwe, which won the Masaza Cup of Buganda Kingdom in 2026, as proof of what a community can achieve when it invests in its talent.

The Deputy Mayor: every division and parish is invited

The Deputy Mayor assured the press of a successful tournament and introduced the whole technical team in charge. She emphasised that all divisions and parishes of Mukono are invited to take part in the Mayor's Cup 2026.

FHNS: fitness, first aid and a clinic session

The Chief Executive Officer of FHNS gave a brief comment and assured the press that FHNS will provide all fitness and first-aid support during the tournament. He also promised a clinic session on FHNS services the next day, and everyone present was delighted.

Rules, structure and preparation

The Tournament Director assured the press that the tournament will be a great success for the people of Mukono Municipality, and took the room through the rules and regulations and the structure of the competition. The Sports Officer then explained how the tournament has been prepared and stressed the promotion of sport through community engagement.
